Scheduled to open in April 2022, Lost Property is a Curio Collection by Hilton hotel with 145 bedrooms and views overlooking St Paul’s Cathedral. The hotel offers guests an immersive and artistic experience of London’s historic quirks, eccentricities and curiosities throughout.
The interior design concept for Lost Property is inspired by the many meanings of ‘lost’ and the team have translated the meaning into visual expressions and representations throughout the hotel. The idea of bringing forgotten stories about the history of London to life through design, with a freshness that would create intrigue and uniqueness no matter where guests look, sits or rests.
As a design-conscious space, the hotel walls are lined with thought-provoking artwork, locally commissioned to reflect London’s history in fashion, industry and transport. At Key Interior and Designs, we wanted to highlight some of London’s more curious and peculiar stories; the ones lost in time but begging to be heard again. Observing the bespoke art creations around the hotel transports guests to a bygone age in London – but through a modern lens that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Nowhere is more captivating and rich in history than the reception, Tattle coffee house and Found, Restaurant and Bar. Here, guests eyes fall on a few unexpected treats that raise questions, smirks and conversation.
The reception desk sits in front of a wall displaying images of common items lost: keys, old photos, credit cards, passport – everyone can remember misplacing at least one of these treasures.
Above the reception desk floats one of our signature, Murano glass light installations in warm marmalade, crimson and amber tones. This fiery accent complements the sepia wall behind and sandy leather veneer of the reception desk. The rich mahogany side is lavishly flourished with brass picture lights and modern art that echoes the colours in the light.
Lighting forms a critical component in all our designs and projects. A trip to Venice to meet with the creators of our bespoke chandeliers and lighting always knits together our concept ideas and we make sure the team visit our suppliers every year!
Our favourite glass piece hangs in the restaurant with breath-taking elegance. This sweeping, colourful bird is made up of a collection of small, colourful, Venetian glass birds, each lost in time through extinction, but remembered here at Lost Property.
Where the rest of the hotel’s design leans into the ‘Lost’ stories of London, the bar area celebrates the ‘Found’, whilst the hotel’s coffee house, ‘Tattle’ is inspired by secrets, gossip and conversation. We took inspiration from the Whispering Gallery at St Paul’s Cathedral in the local vicinity of the hotel.
The art deco design in the corridors leading to the suites, perfectly captures the essence of the hotel, where the past is reimagined and future embraced. These juxtaposing lines and fluid patterns on the floor blend with the bold colour palette, tactile materials and sculptural visuals on the walls for a fully immersive, sensory experience.
In the bedrooms, the design is sharp, modern and clean. The furniture is high-end, confident and exquisitely made. It sits elegantly on the chevron oak floor and geometric plushness of the rug. Flowing deco curves and gold fan handles make the bedroom storage a beautiful design feature of the room.
The bathrooms are simple with an understated opulence of marble, white porcelain and black slate fixtures. Subtle nuances like the rose-tinted mirror remind you that this is a design-led hotel with no detail missed.
